a month of sundays

Roisin, Heidi and Kelly Ann are blasting through Berlin's brunching hot spots, Bezirk by Bezirk, and sharing the delightful and delicious places that make Sundays oh so much better without doing the dishes.

Heidi's last Berlin brunch

Restaurant Josephine - Bergmann Str. 97, Kreuzberg (Brunch 8.90 euros)

Please see our previous reviews of Josephine: Restaurant Josephine, from 26 Mar 2006 and the comments from 28 May 2006

Were it not for food, drink and celebration, I might never have met Heidi. It was in a forest near York over mouthfuls of mead that we first met. That evening, we were celebrating the Celtic festival Samhain by a bonfire…but the bonfire died, we left the forest and I left without her phone number. Food and wine brought us together by chance a month or so later; my flatmate and I hosted a wine and cheese evening. That evening, Heidi was an unexpected, but most welcome guest and our friendship was sealed over red wine and some really interesting cheese. We shared food and drink again, celebrated on many occasions before I finally made the move to Berlin a year ago. Perhaps it is then fitting that we embarked upon this Berlin brunch quest together.

The brunch quest goes on… Kelly-Ann and I will continue our journey through that wonderful institution that is brunch…but oh, Heidi, you will be missed. Eat, drink and be merry in California, and don’t forget to come back and visit us. You will always be our brightest guest star….Roisin

Hakim, physicist and bon viveur opts for some cognac

Many of you know it's my last weekend in Berlin and that means I had only one more buffet with the Berlin Brunching crew. I'm off to California to set up a subsidiary branch of 'a month of sundays' and to get, what I'd rather not call but it really is, a 'real' job.

For my final brunch before handing off all the eating responsibilities to Roisin and Kelly Ann, it was hands down the easiest decision we've made: Restaurant Josephine. It's our favourite by which all other brunches are compared (sorry, but that's so). We packed the back room with friends and friends of friends and even met a fan or two out front. Many thanks for making some of the finest food in the city to Christian and Erkan at Restaurant Josephine and I will always have sweet memories of their fare, and naturally of Berlin - Heidi
